September 29, 2022:

This project has been delayed. NT Power plans to replace electric utility infrastructure in the Tom Taylor Trail between William Street and Water Street to extend the original service life of the assets and thereby maintain/improve the reliability and quality of service for customers in the surrounding area. A contract has been awarded to Valard Construction LP (“Valard”) to perform the work on NT Power’s behalf and construction is scheduled from September 26, 2022, to October 26, 2022.

To complete this work in a safe manner, it has been identified that three (3) power outages, four (4)-hours each in duration, are required for the three buildings listed in the table below.

The scheduling of the power outages is still in progress. NT Power and Valard will provide further updates upon confirming specific power outage dates and times. NT Power will continue to post live updates on its website and social media to enable our customers to track changes to the scheduled outages. Click here: Newmarket Outage Dashboard (arcgis.com)

You can find more information about what to do and how to prepare for a power outage on the Government of Canada’s Get Prepared Webpage.

What can you expect?

  • Due to the nature of the work, there will be construction-related noise and dust from the equipment and trucks, though every effort to minimize this will be made.
  • Access to Tom Taylor Trail may be temporarily restricted while construction work is taking place.
  • Access to all buildings will be maintained and there is no impact to your electric power services, except for the power outages listed below.
  • When the work is complete, the public trails will be fully restored.
